The Rocky Mountain Regional Gay Rodeo, held at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Golden, CO on July 6-8, gives a new meaning to cowboy culture. The annual rodeo, hosted by the Colorado Gay Rodeo Association, is a three-day competition that includes all the timed and livestock events of a typical rodeo, mixed with unique contests, royalty crownings, and drag performances.
The event centers around inclusiveness of all genders and sexual orientations, as well as inclusiveness to those who have never competed in a rodeo or don’t own a horse. With events like the “wild drag race” and “goat dressing,” anyone can compete without a horse or prior rodeo experience.
“It’s open to everybody, whether you’re gay, straight bisexual, transgender. We welcome everyone,” said Ken Hogg, who works as a volunteer with his partner, Jeff, at gay rodeos across the country. This post was originally published here
